According to MOFCOM statistics,
China totally signed 6390 projects of technology
import during the first 7 months of 2006 with
a contract value of US$14.83 billion, up by 56.5%
on a year-on-year basis, and technology fees reached
US$9.12 billion, accounting for 61.5% of total
value of the contracts. The contract value of
technology import increased by a big margin.
During the first 7 months of 2006, the transaction
value of know-how licensing contracts amounted
to US$4.67 billion, up by 62.2% on a year-on-year
basis and accounting for 32.1% of the total. Value
of contracts concerning joint-venture and cooperative
production and technology consultation, technology
service with content of technology import were
USD$ 3.7 billion and US$2.81 billion respectively,
accounting for 25% and 19% respectively of the
total, ranking No. 2 and No. 3.
EU was the biggest source of China's technology
import in the first 7 months of 2006. China signed
US$6.26 billion contracts of technology import
with EU, up by 37.4% on a year-on-year basis and
accounting for 42.2% of the total. Japan and the
US followed with import value of US$3.63 billion
and US$2.49 billion respectively, accounting for
24.5% and 16.8% respectively of the total.
Total value of technology import of state-owned
enterprises hit US$6.99 billion with a year-on-year
basis of 90.7%, accounting for 47.1% of the total,
and of foreign investment enterprises US$6.93
billion, accounting for 46.8%. Value of technology
import by the two types of enterprises was basically
at the same level.
Total US$3.94 billion technology import were
registered in railway transportation, up by more
than 8 times, accounting for 26.6% of the total.
Railway transportation was still the industry
with biggest increase rate in technology import
in China. Technology import in electronic and
telecommunications industries maintained a high
speed growth and number of imported technology
projects was 913 with a value of US$2.93 billion,
up by 118.6% and accounting for 19.8%. In the
mean time, value of technology import in transportation
equipment manufacturing amounted to US$1.19 billion,
accounting for 8%.
