| Dongguan
city located in the southeastern of the Pearl River
Delta, occupying an area of 2465 square kilometers
with 1.5million permanent residents and 5million
people coming from other outside places. Since the
opening-up and reform, the textile industry of Dongguan
has made a rapid progress and the city becomes one
of the main exporting cities of textile goods in
Southern China. There were 6523 textile and garment
enterprises in Dongguan in 2001 employing 560thousand
people. As one of the three pillar industries of
Dongguan, textile industry created output value
of 30billion yuan in 2001 accounting for 12% of
the total industrial output of the whole city, profits
1.03billion yuan taking up 13.8%, taxes 1.54billion
yuan occupying 11.2% and export value US$2.82billion
equal to 11.8%. |
| Garment processing and
manufacturing is the main sector of the textile
industry in Dongguan, nearly 80% textile enterprises
involving in this sector. There are more than 700thousand
garment manufacturing machines across the city,
most of that were lately produced in 80s or 90s
in China or foreign countries. The production capacity
of the garment sector reaches 860million pieces(sets)
each year and 70% of them are exported to Europe,
USA, Japan, Russia and Southeastern Asia. ChangAn
FuAn Dyeing and Printing Company and Machong DeYongJia
Knitting Company are the super-large textile enterprises,
in addition, there are 262 large-scale enterprises.

The textile industrial structure
is composed of textiles, dyeing and printing,
water-washing, garment, fiber products, leather
garment, down product, sweater, knitting, garment
adornment, fabrics and auxiliary materials, garment
processing equipment and so on. For distribution,
a series of booming special markets such as Humen
Fumin Garment market and Guangdong Dalang Wool
Weaving Market have come into being. The city
held some influential exhibitions such as annual
Humen International Garment Fair and Guangdong
Dalang Wool Products Fair. A batch of internationally
and domestically famous brands appeared such as
Yangzi River Western Style Suits, Guanqi Western
Style Suits, Weiwen Western Style Suits in Dongkeng,
Tianlang, Bingda, BaiLangni Sweater in Dalang
and Songying Men¡¯s Wear and Yichun Fashion in
Humen. Now under the guidance of new strategy,
Dongguan is developing towards quality, scale
and brand to transform itself from a manufacturing
base to a modern manufacturing well-known city.
