July Cotton Imports Reach 229,000 Tons  
  China's cotton import volume dropped slightly in July from June, falling to 229,000 tons or 1,051,728 480-pound bales. September 2006 through July 2007 cotton imports totaled 2,020,200 tons or approximately 9,096,497 480-pound bales, which only represented a 21.13 percent year-on-year decline.

  Cotton is the single most important textile fiber in the world, accounting for nearly 40 percent of total world fiber production. While some 80 countries from around the globe produce cotton, the United States, China, and India together provide over half the world's cotton. This monthly update provides official CNTAC (China National Textile & Apparel Council ) data on China import and export of cotton yarn and cotton fabric.  
 
 
Plush Fabric Industry Has Bright Future  
  The plush fabric industry in the country has been doing well. According to latest statistics, China has over 1,000 enterprises that produce plush fabric.  
 
 
Apparel Retail Sales Continue to Expand at 25 Percent Annual Rate  
  China's apparel retail sales environment is continuing to expand faster than either domestic apparel production or exports. July apparel retail sales grew 24.9 percent from year-ago levels, which followed a 25 percent expansion during the first half of the year.
