part of Guangdong and facing South China Sea, Chenghai
Shantou with an area of 345 square kilometers and
700 thousand residents, is a famous hometown of
oversea Chinese. The GDP in 2002 of Chenghai reached
8.3billion yuan and the output value 20billion yuan.
Textile and clothing industry is a traditional
and pillar industry of Chenghai, which takes exports
as main direction and private economy as main
body, has formed a new product structure focusing
on woolen sweaters over the past few years of
development. Enjoying a complete industrial chain
including product designing, development, production,
complementary processing and sale, the textile
and clothing industry owns 1478 enterprises, taking
up 23.4% of that of the whole industry in Chenghai,
and provides more than 70thousand job positions.
The output value in 2002 of the industry reached
5.4billion yuan accounting for 27% of the whole
industry in Chenghai. In possession of 67.5thousand
all kinds of manufacturing machines, the industry
can produce 166million pieces of woolen sweaters
each year, 61% of which are sold to Russian and
countries in Europe, America, Middle East, and
Southeastern Asia.
Chenghai woolen sweaters especially women¡¯s fashions
have their unique style. Using the traditional
handmade technologies of Guangdong embroidery
and drawnwork, Chenghai woolen sweaters enjoys
a popular market in the field of woolen sweater
business. Under the flexible mechanism of private
enterprises, many large-scale exemplary enterprises
emerged like Hongtai and Jiamao. ¡°JinQi¡± ¡°HongTai¡±
are awarded as Famous Brands of Guangdong and
¡°Wanfeng¡± ¡°Hongtai¡± ¡°Xiongye¡± are brands promoted
and recommended by Shantou city.
