Hundreds of exhibitors, thousands of products - Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics is the must-see apparel textile sourcing event in China

Fringe programmes give visitors more to enjoy - seminars and a trend forum keep buyers up-to-date on market information

One of the biggest apparel textile trade events in China, Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics, will feature seven exhibition halls, 80,000 sqm of exhibition space and more than 2,000 exhibitors from across China and the world. The show, running 29 October - 1 November 2007 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, will include trend and design events to give visitors the latest information on styles and fashions. Among the events planned are two days of seminars and two trend forums created by the Interstoff Directions Trend Committee and Fabrics China.

As part of the two-day seminar programme, experts will speak on more than 20 topics of interest to the apparel textile industry. Seminar topics include forecasts of colours and fabrics for mens and womens wear; new products on the market including trade and trademark issues and much more.

The seminar programme launches with Ms. Cinzia Gremmo, President of Italtex, a trend-forecasting agency from Italy, who will speak about fashion trends for fabrics for Spring/Summer 2009, for womenswear, menswear and casualwear. "The seminar will cover all fields of fabric production - from wool to cotton, linen, silk and man-made fibres, to prints and knits - and all styles from casual to elegant and formal," Ms. Gremmo notes. "Italtex was set up in the famous textile town of Biella (Italy) in 1959, and since then we have focused our attention on the study and preparation of Fashion Trend Books for fabrics: books showing the latest trends of colours, compositions, yarns, patterns, finishes for apparel and home textiles."

Following Ms Gremmo, Ms. Ornella Bignami from Studio Elemeti Moda, Milan, and a member of the Italian Trade Commission will speak on the topic "The senses of excellence". The content will include seven aspects - atmosphere, inspiration, colour, materials, texture, picture and dying techniques. Ms Bignami is a member of the Interstoff Asia Directions Trend Committee and has more than 20 years experience in the industry.

Other seminars will include:

* Lenzing Botanic: the global fibre company will discuss the natural benefits of its products, derived from plants

* "From Seed to Textile----the Green Journey of DuPont Sorona", presented by DuPont China

* An introduction to DOW XLA, a new long-lasting stretch material, by DOW Fiber Solution

Trend Forum shows upcoming styles

Another forecast feature is the Trend Forum, a display area that brings together the latest colour, fabric and print forecasts from the Interstoff Asia Directions Trend Committee, comprised of four world renowned trend-forecasting agencies: Nelly Rodi Agency (Paris), Elementi Moda (Milan), Here & There (New York) and Sachiko Inoue (Tokyo).

Three trend themes will be presented: "Ice Eco", a pale, bluish wintry palette with soft natural fabrics; "Bobo Craft", a healthy, eco-friendly and natural look inspired by greens and skin tones; and "Techno Fiction", a graphic look with metallic, futuristic elements.

According to Ms Nelly Rodi, who is leading the Directions trend team this year: "Autumn / winter 2008 announces a season full of contrasts, playing with opposites and combining contradictory references. We take note of nature's elements, and we are in a quest for soft contacts - delicate wool, organic cotton, brushed mohair... but at the same time we are tempted by the conquest of the future and its darkness: metallic tones, onyx black, compact aspects. It's about mixing past and future."

The show will also feature a look at the upcoming trends in China at the Fabrics China Trend Forum. Chinese designers will provide their forecasts for upcoming trends, colours and styles for autumn/winter 2008/2009. Four themes will be presented: Nocturne, Sublimation, Purification and Footprint.

Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics is organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd and The Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT-Tex and the China Information Textile Centre. For further information on the fair, visit www.intertextile.com or email textile@hongkong.messefrankfurt.com.
