Haiyang, located in the south of Shandong Peninsula,
is a coastal city to the Yellow Sea. The city
is at the heart of Qingdao-Yantai_Weihai area
and faces Japan and Korea across the sea. It enjoys
the geographic advantages and convenient transportation
and is among the first group of the costal open
cities approved by the state. The city covers
an area of 1,886 sq. kilos and has the population
of 690 thousand.
Haiyang lies at the foot of the mountains and
embraces 230 kilos¡¯ coastline. It is a famous
scenic resort where long-line golden seashore,
ambient coastal holiday village, Scottish-style
golf ground, waterfalls, islands and temples could
be found at the every corner. Subtropical location
favors the city a pleasant weather all year round.
Haiyang has rich resources and the industries
are highly developed, including garment, machinery,
metals, construction material, arts and crafts
and water product. Among all these, the sweaters
processing is much more developed, having 365
scale-sizable manufacturers and over 3,000 individual
workshops. The total assets of these enterprises
amount to RMB 1.5 billion and the gross year output
exceeds 100 million pieces, consuming over 40
thousand tons¡¯ yarns. The industry employs more
than 70 thousand workers, including 20 thousand
non-locals. In 2002, the industry achieved the
year sales turnover of RMB 2.5 billion, the export
shipment of RMB2.3 billion, the profits tax of
RMB 300 million and the tax payment of RMB 100
million.
