Cotton Cloth Output Higher, but Slower in YTD 2008
Source£ºGlobecotnews        Date: 2008-07-23
Decelerating for the fourth straight year, Chinese cotton cloth output through the first half of the year is up 6.1% and remains on target to reach a record 29.6 billion square meters in 2008. This growth is slowed by June volume only increasing 4.1% from twelve months earlier. Mirroring the faster year-to-date growth of mid-size yarn-producing provinces discussed here, the growth in 2008 cotton fabric output similarly is driven my medium-sized fabric manufacturing regions. The four fastest-growing provinces¡ªHubei, Henan, Shaanxi, and Sichuan¡ªare enjoying cotton fabric production up a combined 26.2% from the first half of last year, while output across the rest of China is up only 8.5%. While output in Shandong Province, the largest cotton fabric producer in China, remains much more than the combined volume of these four provinces, these four now account for over 28% of total cotton fabric production.
