An unprecedented 2000 exhibitors participated in this year's Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics – a 30% increase on 2005. Organised by Messe Frankfurt, The Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT-Tex and the China Information Textile Centre, this well established and enormously popular trade fair takes place 25 - 28 October 2006 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC).

Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics is the place to find apparel fabrics such as cotton, wool, silk, linen, ramie, man-made, knitted and coated materials. Lingerie and swimwear fabrics, functional fabrics, prints, fibres and yarns, embroidery and lace can all be found at the show. The show also attracts many designers and generates a lot of media attention.

This year's Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics occupied over 80,500 sqm space at SNIEC, 27 percent more than in 2005. This growth is due in part to the many satisfied exhibitors returning to the show; some companies even taking bigger pavilion space, and many new companies joining for the first time. Extensive booth space is also being secured by companies from Mainland China. Returning country pavilions include Germany, Japan, Pakistan, Portugal and Turkey. Several exhibiting countries and regions have chosen to greatly increase the size of their pavilions this year: Italy, Korea and Taiwan. Joining this year's fair are exhibitors from Malaysia, Russia, Singapore and the Ukraine.

Katy Lam, Director of Trade Fairs, Messe Frankfurt Hong Kong, says: "This year's Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics is going to be bigger and more exciting. It is becoming increasingly established as one of the best apparel fabric shows in Asia and we are delighted that we can offer buyers such a great choice of exhibitors."

As well as being the business platform for apparel fabrics, the show is an excellent place to learn more about the apparel fabrics industry through its annual symposium.

This year's symposium held from 26 - 28 October featured topics including Cotton Trends for Spring/Summer 2008, Colour Trends for 2007/08, Womenswear Trends for Autumn/Winter 2007/08 and Fabric Trends for 2008.

Aimed at inspiring both exhibitors and visitors, trend forums will be situated throughout some of the halls at the trade fair. Designed by Nelly Rodi Agency, France, four of the seven halls will feature separate forecasts by Interstoff Asia Directions Committee and Fabrics China. The four themes running through Interstoff Asia's forums include Enchantment, Indigenous, Enthusiasm and Androgynous. Interstoff Asia Directions Committee comprises top trend forecasters from Asia, Europe and USA, selected because of their knowledge and wide experience in all fields of fashion. Fabrics China's predictions will be focused on the themes Share, Belief, Alone and Creation. Fabrics China indicates trends in Mainland China.
