April Cotton Imports Increase to 1.209 Million Bales |

China 's April cotton imports surged to 263,400 tons or 1,209,871 480-pound bales, up 23.53 percent from March and 22.5 percent from a year ago. Total September 2007 through April 2008 cotton imports increased 18.74 percent to 1,588,200 tons or 7,296,556 480-pound bales. |

April Textile/Apparel Exports Reach 14.3 Billion U.S. Dollars |

China 's April textile and apparel exports increased 11.3 percent from the previous year to 14.3 billion U.S. dollars , while total September 2007 through April 2008 cumulative exports were up 17.2 percent to 113.9 billion USD. The growth is being fueled by shipments to Europe and an increase in the average unit price in U.S. dollar terms. |

Retail Sales Soar - Apparel Up 29.7 Percent(Jan-Apr) |

China 's retail sales increased 16.8 percent in 2007; however sales have escalated in 2008, with April sales soaring 21.5 percent to a new record of 814.2 billion yuan or approximately 116 billion U.S. dollars. Total January through April retail sales jumped 21 percent to 3.3697 trillion yuan. Apparel sales climbed 29.7 percent. At this rate, domestic consumption of apparel will double in less than 3-1/2 years. |
